Viejas Hotel Celebrates Final Stages of Construction with Topping Off Ceremony
San Diego Countys newest hotel features upscale suites and amenities next to Viejas Casino
Tribal and community leaders from throughout San Diego today celebrated the final stages of the much-anticipated Viejas Hotel with a Topping Off Ceremony.
More than 100 people attended today’s event outside the 5-story Viejas Hotel, which is located immediately east of the Viejas Casino and is now connected by a shared lounge area. Viejas Casino opened in 1991 and is one of the most successful tribal casinos in all of California. Both the casino and hotel are owned by the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians.
The new $36-million dollar Viejas Hotel features 128 rooms including 99 deluxe rooms and 29 luxurious suites; a pool and hot tub, with an expansive patio area and cabanas; a business center; fitness room and limited room service.
Viejas tribal leaders and casino executives, along with civic and community leaders, were on hand as the Viejas Tribal Council signed their names to a steel beam that will remain on display until the completed Viejas Hotel opens to the public in the Spring of 2013. Also at the event today, renderings of the outside and inside areas of the new Viejas Hotel were unveiled for the first time. Guests were also able to take the first free, public tours of the Viejas Hotel Preview Center, an exciting experience where guests actually feel like they are in the hotel and can look, touch and feel the upscale appointments inside the actual Viejas Hotel rooms, including the Deluxe room and the Luxury Suite. The Viejas Preview Center will be open to the public during regular hours at the Viejas Outlets, immediately across the street from the Viejas Hotel and Viejas Casino.
Viejas Tribal Chairman Anthony R. Pico thanked the 400+ construction workers for their dedication, skills and hard work. He also noted the importance of the Viejas Hotel’s opening – not just for the Viejas Band, but the entire region. “The new Viejas Hotel is an important milestone for the Viejas tribal community. It is a very visible display of economic progress and a reminder that tribal gaming continues to help current and future generations of Viejas families experience economic self-sufficiency and hope,” said Chairman Pico. “But this new hotel is also an economic engine for Alpine, east San Diego County and beyond. We are proud of the partnerships that brought this new hotel to the community.”
