Playa Hotels & Resorts, S.L. Acquires the Occidental Allegro Punta Cana Resort |
|
Resort to be Renamed and Branded the Sunscape Punta Cana Dominican Republic |
Playa Hotels & Resorts, S.L. announced its acquisition of the 540 guest room all-inclusive Occidental Allegro Punta Cana Resort in the Dominican Republic. The upscale resort sits on a beachfront parcel of land with serene beaches and features extensive resort amenities. It will be operated by AMResorts and re- branded as the Sunscape Punta Cana Dominican Republic.
This purchase is the latest in a succession of acquisitions by Playa Hotels & Resorts throughout the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Since its inception in 2006, the company has acquired twelve hotels in Mexico and the Dominican Republic including another property formerly owned by Occidental Hotels & Resorts, the Grand Flamenco Puerto Plata Resort.
"The acquisition of this expansive property fits the parameters of our asset management portfolio for upscale resorts throughout the Caribbean," said Bruce Wardinski, Chairman & CEO, Playa Hotels & Resorts, S.L. "The resort was originally built in 1994 and recently renovated, which means it enjoys a premium beachfront location as well as modern and guest pleasing amenities and services. We believe this property will be very successful under the popular Sunscape Resorts & Spa brand and will complement our other Sunscape Resort & Spa in the Dominican Republic, the Sunscape Casa del Mar La Romana," added Wardinski.

As part of the Unlimited Fun, guests may enjoy swimming, sailing, snorkeling, windsurfing, and a variety of sports including tennis and volleyball. There is also a new spa with a variety of treatment rooms and optional services. For children there is an Explorer's Club for Kid's three through twelve with a variety of supervised fun-filled activities and games. For dining, the resort offers six gourmet options, including four a la carte restaurants featuring Italian, Caribbean, seafood and grilled specialties.
